DIY Tracking Bracelet


Now that I am back from Spring Break, I am definitely feeling the need to eat a little healthier and indulge a little less!  This bracelet was really easy to make and will help me track my healthy choices.  The beads slide along the bracelet easily, so I can move a bead to keep track of my various goals.  The bracelet as I made it will keep track of 8 glasses of water, 9 fruit or veggie servings, and 2 sessions of physical activity -- my daily goals.  Plus it is really cheap and quick to make.

Here's what you need:
1.  Plastic beads with a fairly large hole. (You could steal some from the kid's craft supplies like I did.)

2.  Bracelet closures.  I bought mine at Michael's for $2.99.


3. Waxed string (found in the beading section of a craft store).  I think mine cost $1.79.


To assemble your bracelet:
1.  First cut a length of string that is 3 ft long and attach the closure right in the middle by knotting it in place.


2.  Now insert one end of the string from left to right through the bead.  And then insert the other end of the string from right to left through the same bead.


3. It should now look like this:

4.  Then gently slide the bead down until it reaches the closure.

5.  Repeat with other beads.

6.  I added 8 beads to represent 8 glasses of water daily.  (In the dim lighting of my house, I thought they were all blue, but as you can see, I was clearly wrong.)  Then leave a little bit of space and knot the string with an overhand knot.

 
7.  Next I repeated the process to add 9 red beads to represent 9 fruits and vegetable servings per day.  Then another knot and another two beads to represent daily exercise.  (In this picture, I have slid the blue beads as if I had drunk 4 glasses of water and 3 beads as if I had 3 servings of veggies.)


  8.  The last step is to attach the other closure.  That's it! 


Of course, you can use any beads you want, and make as many or as few categories as you would like.  This length is a comfortable length for my wrist, so it worked out just right. 

My kids want bracelets like this, too.  I think for them I will use just 10 (larger) beads, and I will have them slide a bead every time they do or say something nice to one of their siblings.  That might help keep our home a little sweeter.
